If you’ve visited the white sands of Wrightsville Beach in southeastern North Carolina, then this might be a reminder of how beautiful it is and how you’ve always planned to return. If you’ve never been to this gorgeous beach town, then now is a great time to think about scheduling your next summer vacation here.
Wrightsville Beach is located on the North Carolina coast, just east of Wilmington. Heading towards the drawbridge on Causeway Drive sends you over the Intracoastal Waterway with views of marshes, long docks, marinas, waterfront restaurants, and boaters out enjoying the gorgeous blue waters. You immediately begin to tune into island time.
If you turn off to your right over the drawbridge, you’ll find restaurants with fresh seafood and delicious lunch and breakfast meals plus local island shopping, condos and homes, marinas, and a public access boat launch all easily accessible to the Intracoastal.
If you continue on Causeway Drive, you’ll feel energized watching the myriad of people walking and running “The Loop,” a 3.5 mile trail that takes you over two bridges spanning the Banks Channel, through downtown Wrightsville Beach, and back along the water to the parks and recreation center. This is an ideal way to take in the town.
Wrightsville Beach has an active downtown area with plenty of shopping, dining, and nightlife choices. It’s a very walkable town and you’ll always see people walking or riding their beach cruiser bikes throughout the neighborhoods.
Now that we’ve explored the town, it’s time to hit the beach. Wrightsville Beach boasts white sand beaches and clear blue water with surf to lure some of the best surfers around. People of all ages come to enjoy the beach and the water. There are wonderful oceanside resorts on the island as well as condos and beach houses for rent with easy accessibility to the ocean and the town. Some of the popular oceanfront resorts are the Blockade Runner, the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort, and Shell Island Resort.
During your Wrightsville Beach vacation, you can choose from a ton of activities to keep things exciting, or you can simply take in the beach, the resort pool, and the restaurants to keep things mellow and easy. Activities on the island include surf school, kiteboarding, ocean or sea kayaking, boat rentals, fishing charters, pier fishing, surf fishing at the south end of the beach, a boat trip to the Masonboro Island natural preserve, birding, and exploring all the nooks and crannies of the island.
Right about now is the best time to start researching and scheduling your Wrightsville Beach vacation. Get your family and friends together, rent a beach house or condo, and enjoy all that Wrightsville Beach has to offer.
