Fall is my favorite time to visit Europe because the crushing crowds of summer have thinned out and it’s possible to see the continent’s best sights without lining up for hours or sweating through your clothes. The State Department’s warning of October 3rd should be a reminder of best practices you should undertake whenever you travel. Here are a few tips I always abide by — security warning or not;
Take a cue from New York City’s MTA: If you see something, say something. It’s never silly to be concerned about an unaccompanied bag. Look for odd behaviors, not “different” people.
If you’re very concerned about public transport, walk. Europe’s best cities are best appreciated on foot anyway.
A travel alert “means to be careful when you go, but they are not advising you not to go.” So don’t hesitate get out and enjoy there is so much to see.
